Jeera prices rose by Rs 62, or 0.52 per cent, to Rs 11,890 per quintal in futures trade today on fresh buying by traders and pick up in demand.

Slow down in arrivals from producing regions also supported the uptrend to some extent. However, estimates of higher output capped the gains.

At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, jeera for June contract rose by Rs 62, or 0.52 per cent, to Rs 11,890 per quintal, with an open interest of 2,244 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in July contract gained Rs 31, or 0.26 per cent, to Rs 11,970 per quintal, with a business turnover of 11,055 lots.

Market experts said fresh buying by traders on pick up in demand in the spot market against restricted arrivals from the producing regions mainly pushed up jeera prices at futures trade.
