Jeera prices spurted by Rs 339, or 2.19 per cent, to Rs 15,830 per quintal in futures market today, as speculators enlarged their positions on hopes of pick up in demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange counter, jeera for August surged by Rs 339, or 2.19 per cent, to Rs 15,830 per quintal, with an open interest of 13,062 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in September-month jumped up by Rs 301, or 1.91 per cent, to Rs 16,094 per quintal, with an open interest of 13,497 lots.

Analysts said increased buying by speculators on pick up in spot demand and less arrivals from the producing regions led to an upsurge in jeera prices at futures trade.
