Jeera prices rose by Rs 80 to Rs 15,644 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions, driven by a pick-up in spot market demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, September delivery rose by Rs 80, or 0.51%, to Rs 15,644 per quintal, with an open interest for 17,256 lots.

The October contract moved up by Rs 75, or 0.47%, to Rs 16,091 per quintal, with an open interest for 17,010 lots.

Analysts said fresh buying by speculators on the back of a pick-up in spot market demand mainly led to the rise in jeera futures prices.
