Jeera futures prices rose by Rs 127 to Rs 16,870 per quintal today as speculators enlarged positions, supported by firm trend at spot market on pick up in demand.

However, estimates of lower output due to unseasonal rain also influenced jeera futures prices.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, Jeera for delivery in June rose by Rs 127, or 0.76 per cent, to Rs 16,870 per quintal, with an open interest of 783 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in April gained Rs 70, or 0.44 per cent, to Rs 16,145 per quintal, with a business volume of 17,808 lots.

Market analysts said pick up in domestic as well as export demand mainly pushed up jeera prices at futures trade here.
