Jeera traded Rs 64, or 0.44 per cent higher at Rs 14,690 per 100 kg in futures trade today, as traders covered-up their positions amid better demand at the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange counter, jeera for delivery in October contract rose by Rs 64, or 0.44 per cent, to Rs 14,690 per quintal, with an open interest of 4,443 lots.

Similarly, jeera for delivery in September contract delivery also traded Rs 48, or 0.33 per cent, to Rs 14,440 per 100 kg, with a business volume of 15,078 lots, while August month contracts traded Rs 41, or 0.29 per cent higher at Rs 14,168 per 100 kg in an open interest of 8,397 lots.

Analysts attributed the rise in jeera futures prices to covering-up of short positions by speculators, driven by pick up in spot markets but negligible export demand limited gains.
