Jeera prices rose by Rs 80 to Rs 13,987.50 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators enlarged their positions, tracking a firm trend in the spot markets on the back of festive demand.

Prospects of better sowing after the monsoon rains revived late in the season capped the gains.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in October moved up by Rs 80 to Rs 13,987.50 per quintal, with an open interest of 13,722 lots.

November jeera traded higher by Rs 52.50 to Rs 14,160 per quintal, with an open interest of 13,764 lots.

Marketmen said increased buying by speculators on the back of feastive season demand in spot market helped jeera futures to trade higher.

Improved prospects of sowing following late monsoon rains restricted the gains, they added.
