Jeera prices recovered by over 1% to Rs 14,047.50 per quintal in futures market today as speculators covered-up their pending short positions.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in September traded Rs 145, or 1.04%, higher at Rs 14,047.50 per quintal, with an open interest of 2,718 lots.

October jeera traded higher by Rs 102.50, or 0.72%, to Rs 14,430 per quintal in 26,820 lots.

Marketmen said covering-up of short positions by speculators supported the recovery in jeera futures.

Rains in the top producing state of Gujarat, raised the prospects of better sowing, limiting the gains, they added.
