India's tea export in April fell 8 per cent to 8.82 million kg from a year ago, Tea Board data said on Tuesday. Exports in April fell after moving up in March. |
The fall was unexpected as industry was expecting drought in Kenya to boost India's tea export, industry sources said. |
"Exports from India were expected to increase as drought in Kenya during December-February had significantly reduced world tea supplies," an official of a tea company said. |
India's tea export in March had registered an increase of 21.61 per cent to 14.69 million kg following marginal declines in January and February. |
