Larsen & Toubro hit an intra-day 52-week high of Rs 565 before closing at Rs 521.50, marginally down by 0.65 per cent. More than 10.75 lakh shares were traded on the BSE.

The counter is said to have attracted buying interest on the back of the company's announcing the bagging of another order on Monday, according to market sources.

Reports of the L&T stock split for demerger also affected sentiment. The scrip lost ground eventually, in sync with the broader markets which closed deep in the negative territory. Domestic funds as well as FIIs have been accumulating the scrip over the last few months.
