The markets continue to struggle to break into the green range after trading in the red through the noon. The Sensex is down 16 points at 20,915 while the Nifty lost 13 points at 6,287.
However, the broader markets continue to trade in the green. The smallcap index gained 0.9% at 11,148 while the midcap has inched ahead at 0.4%. The benchmark index continues to underperform at 0.07% in the negative.
Among the sectoral indices, Consumer Durables continue to advance and is currently up nearly 4% followed by Auto index gaining 1%. However, FMCG and Capital Goods continue to languish at the bottom of the chart, down 0.8% and 0.6% respectively.
On the Asian front, the markets have closed mixed.Hang Seng closed down 0.8% at 24,500 while Nikkei gained 1.4% at 9,830.Seoul Composite and Taiwan Weighted shut shop gaining 1% and 0.06%.
On the other hand, the European indices continue to trade in the negative.FTSE is down 0.1% followed by CAC losing 0.5% and DAX remaining flat at 6,783.
The gainers in the Sensex-30 stocks are Tata Motors up 3%,Mahindra & Mahindra gaining 2.5% followed by Infosys and Wipro adding 1% each.
On the Sensex losers list are Hindalco down nearly 4%, Cipla shedding about 2% and BHEL, SBI, Bharti Airtel,ACC, Hindustan Unilever and ICICI Bank losing 1% each.
The market breadth owing to the broader markets continues to be positive. Of the total 3064 stocks traded on the BSE, 1838 stocks have advanced while 1136 have declined.
