Losses in a volatile week |
Prafull Shirsat / Mumbai June 15, 2009, 0:08 IST |
The markets began the week with the third biggest fall of the year as foreign institutional investors pulled out their investments. But, thereafter, it saw a sharp appreciation on Prime Minister's remarks on economic growth and witnessed high volatility towards the end of the week.
Last week, the Smart Portfolios benchmark, the BSE 200 index was flat at 1,845. Despite this, gains made earlier meant that the portfolio value of a Rs 10 lakh investment in the BSE 200 index on September 1, 2008, appreciated 3.55 per cent to Rs 10.35 lakh at the end of last week.
With the exception of Kashyap Pujara, fund managers rushed to book profits. Of the 64 trades last week, 39 were on the sell side while 25 were on the buy side.
Anand Agarwal led the returns chart for the second consecutive week with a 46.7 per cent surge in his net worth. Amar Ambani's net worth zoomed 39.3 per cent to Rs 13.93 lakh, while Sadanand Shetty's portfolio soared 30.4 per cent to Rs 13.04 lakh. Kashyap Pujara's net worth rose 27.2 per cent to Rs 12.72 lakh.
