Lupin gains on launching new pill in the US

Lupin has gained nearly 1% at Rs 471 after the company announced the launch of a generic version of Femcon Fe, birth control chewable tablets, in the US market.

The company’s US-based subsidiary Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc has launched the generic version of Warner Chilcott's Femcon Fe Chewable tablets in strengths of 0.4mg/35mcg, Lupin said in a statement.

Femcon Fe (norethindrone and ethinyl estradiol, chewable and ferrous fumarate) is low-dose chewable, birth control tablet that can also be taken with liquid, the company said.

Meanwhile, Renowned investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, along with his wife Rekha, has hiked his stake in drugmaker Lupin Ltd to nearly 3% by adding 14.04 lakh shares, worth about Rs 65 crore, to his holding in past three months.

The scrip opened at Rs 470 and has, so far, touched a high of Rs 475. Around 13,777 shares changed hands on the BSE counter, till 1026 hours.
