The prices, which already had started slipping on Thursday after the announcement of the ban, are expected to dip further.
The near month July contract closed at Rs 894.50 (931.50) a quintal, down 3.97 per cent. Similarly, August contract closed at Rs 933.50 (Rs 972)and September at Rs 938 (Rs 977.50).
The new kharif crop, of which sowing has begun, is expected to hit the market by the end of October, this year.Commodity experts said that in the coming season, maize output could cross 20 million tonnes.
