Maize prices moved down by Rs 18 to Rs 1,261 per quintal in futures trade today as traders preferred to off-load their positions at existing higher levels.

Market analysts said profit booking by speculators at prevailing higher levels pulled down maize futures prices.

Weak demand from cattle-feed making industries against increased stocks positions also influenced the trading sentiments.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, maize for delivery in June shed Rs 18 to Rs 1,261 per quintal, with an open interest of 1,100 lots.

Maize prices for delivery in May fell by Rs 14, or 1.13 per cent, to Rs 1,230 per quintal, with a business volume of 1,400 lots.

Likewise, prices for delivery in April fell by Rs 6.50, or 0.53 per cent, to Rs 1,215.50 per quintal, with an open interest of 17,280 lots.
