Maize futures slip on selling pressure

Firm rupee on the back of FII inflows adds pressure on maize prices

Maize prices dropped today by Rs 31 to Rs 1,275 per quintal in the futures trading on fresh selling triggered off by traders on the back of weak overseas cues.

Marketmen said besides profit-booking, strength in dollar against the euro and Asian currencies pressurised global prices for the grain.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, maize for most for August contract dropped by Rs 31, or 2.37 per cent, to Rs 1,275 per quintal in open interest of 30 lots.

April contract shed Rs 17, or 1.49 per cent, to Rs 1,126 per quintal, with an open interest of 4,110 lots.

Most active May contract on the NCDEX slipped by Rs 17, or 1.43 per cent, to Rs 1,171 per quintal, clocking an open interest of 13,460 lots.
