Maize prices up by 0.9%: USGC

Prices of maize in the country moved up marginally by 0.9 per cent to Rs 9,562 per tonne for the week ended on July 10, 2010, the US Grains Council (USGC) has said. "Prices were higher than last year by 8.6 per cent," USGC India Representative Amit Sachdeva said.

Last week, maize prices, were reported to be down in some of the major markets across the country, the prices in Andhra Pradesh were down by 1.32 per cent  to Rs 8,725 per tonne.

The prices of maize declined in Maharashtra by 0.64 per cent to Rs 9,500 per tonne and in Tamil Nadu, the price of maize declined by 0.81 per cent to Rs 9,761 per tonne.

 

In Gujarat, prices increased by 4.25 per cent to Rs 10,786 per tonne and in Karnataka it went up by 2.5 per cent to Rs 9,951 per tonne, USGC said.

Maize prices also increased by 1.46 per cent in Rajasthan to Rs 10,191 per tonne while in Uttar Pradesh, it went up by 8.74 per cent to Rs 9,700 per tonne. In the spot market, prices in Nizamabad spot market went up by 0.7 per cent to Rs 10,205 per tonne.

In Karimnagar, the prices were up by 1.03 per cent to Rs 9,960 per tonne while in Davangere market, it went up by 1.52 per cent to Rs 9,924 per tonne. Feed and Industrial grade maize prices also witnessed an increase of 1.5 per cent to Rs 10,084 per tonne in Nizamabad market.

Among other coarse grains, pearl Millet prices rose by 1.1 per cent to Rs 9,676 per tonne during the last week, it said.

Sorghum prices went up by 6 per cent to Rs 14,773 per tonne on an average last week, the report said.
