The markets have slipped further to touch an intra-day low of 18,125, down 80 points from the day's opening. The Sensex id down 81 points at 18,144, while the Nifty is at 5,453, shedding 24 points.However, the broader markets continue to perform well, with the midcap index gaining 0.2% and the smallcap index at 0.1% as compared to the benchmark index which is down 0.2%.
Among the sectoral indices on the BSE, Oil & Gas up 1.2% has extended its gains and leads the chart followed by Metal, PSU and Auto index.Consumer Durables, Capital Goods, Health Care, Power, FMCG, Realty, Bankex, Teck and IT are in the red.ONGC and BPCL up 3% each followed by Gail India and Indian Oil Corporastion adding 2.7% are the movers in the Oil & Gas space.Tech Mahindra down nearly 2% and IT heavyweights Infosys and TCS shedding 1% each are the major draggers in the IT space.
ONGC (Rs 1324) and Tata Steel (Rs 517) up 3% are the major gainers on the Sensex.Sterlite (Rs 154), Reliance Communications (Rs 162)and Hindalco (Rs 165) adding 1% each are the other significant gainers.
DLF(Rs 311) down 2% is the top loser on the Sensex.Reliance Infrastructure (Rs 986), Tata Power (Rs 986), Infosys (Rs 2718) down 1.7% each are the other prominent losers.
The market breadth is negative. Of the total 2972 stocks traded on the BSE, 1569 stocks have declined while 1284 have advanced.
