Market at day's low

After a quiet opening the markets have spiralled down to touch the day's low of 20,079 and continues to hover around the same. The Nifty lost 41 points and is trading at 6,040. In the broader markets, the smallcap index is up 0.1% while the midcap is flat at 8,454. The benchmark index continues to under perform at 0.5%

The conditions are not any better in the international market either. CAC has opened down 1% while FTSE shed 0.6% in the opening trades.

On the BSE sectoral charts, Consumer Durables, up 0.8% leads the pack followed by Metal and Auto indices gaining 0.3% and 0.08% respectively. All the other indices continue to remain in the negative.

Mahindra & Mahindra up nearly 2%, Hindalco, Sterlite gaining 1% each are the top gainers on the Sensex.

HDFC, NTPC, Bharti Airtel down 2% each are the top losers on the benchmark index.ICICI Bank, ONGC, Maruti Suzuki and Hindustan Unilever shedding 1% each are the other noteable losers.

 

Market breadth  is negative. 1463 stocks have declined while 1373 have advanced.
