From its recent closing low of 10,805 levels hit on September 24, 2020, the Nifty 50 index has rallied nearly 10 per cent till October 8 with most of the gains coming from banking and information technology (IT) counters. IndusInd Bank and HDFC have been the top gainers between September 24 and October 7 (closing basis) – rallying 26 per cent and 19 per cent respectively, ACE Equity data show. UltraTech Cement hits 7-month high; stock surges 7% in 3 days
Shares of UltraTech Cement hit a seven-month high of Rs 4,334, up 3 per cent on the BSE, in the intra-day trade on Thursday on expectation of improvement in demand. The stock of the cement major was trading higher for the third straight day, ralling 7 per cent during the period and was trading at its highest level since March 6, 2020. READ MORE

Life insurers see 16% growth in new business premiums in September quarter
In Q2, Indian insurers netted new business premiums (NBP) to the tune of Rs 75,392 crore, with state-owned insurance behemoth Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) seeing a rise of almost 14 per cent to Rs 51,488 crore. NBP of private insurers rose by about 20 per cent to Rs 23,904. 2 crore. NBP is the premium acquired from new policies for a particular year. READ MORE

Home sales recover in Sept qtr; still a long road to recovery: Knight Frank
Even though the sales of residential units have improved in the July – September 2020 quarter (Q2FY21), it will be a long road to recovery for the real estate sector to reach pre-Covid-19 levels, says Knight Frank. According to the real estate consultant, the sale of residential units across eight major metros in the country – Kolkata, Chennai, Pune, National Capital Region (NCR), Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Ahmadabad – picked up pace in Q2FY21 to reach 33,403 – up a massive 246 per cent on a sequential basis. Passenger vehicle retail sales up 9.81% in September to 195,665 units
Passenger vehicle retail sales are back in green with 9.81 per cent growth in the month of September 2020. Total PV sales increased to 1,95,665 units from 1,78,189 units, in September 2019. Other than PVs, tractors remain the only segment to show growth in sales while all the other segments continue to be in red. Overall retail sales report a 10.24 per cent drop to 13,44,866 units in September 2020 as compared to 14,98,283 units, a year ago. READ MORE
