Maruti Suzuki Q2 preview | Poor quarter in the offing, profit may halve
The overall slump in the auto sector marked by plummeting volumes will impact the September quarter results of India's largest carmarker Maruti Suzuki which is scheduled to be announced later in the day. Analysts expect the company's net profit to almost halve from the year-ago levels while margins may also dip around 10 per cent.
Brokerage house ICICI Securities said that Maruti's Q2 performance is in line with the overall performance of the auto sector where "pain prevailed across segments and geographies in the sector as retail demand failed to pick up, with the resulting bloated inventory levels then impacting wholesale dispatch volumes adversely". India Inc Q2 earnings start on positive note, tax rate cut boosts profit
The July-September 2019 quarter (Q2) earnings season has started on an optimistic note for corporate India. Excluding the exceptional gains and losses, the combined net profit of 200 companies that have declared their results so far is up 15 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y), while profit before tax (PBT) has risen by a higher rate of 20.7 per cent, thanks to the cut in tax rates.
In comparison, net profit was up 23.3 per cent in the year-ago period and 20.1 per cent during the April-June 2019 quarter. READ MORE

Infosys share sell-off weighs on all 5 IT funds, ICICI Pru Tech worst hit
ICICI Prudential Technology, which had 44 per cent exposure to Infosys, saw its NAV slip 7.28 per cent. For Birla Sun Life Digital Fund, the impact was 5.16 per cent (27 per cent exposure to Infosys), while for SBI Technology Opportunities Fund, the NAV slipped 6.16 per cent (35.69 per cent exposure). The government’s proposed decision to merge state-owned telecom companies Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), announced after market hours on Wednesday, has come too late and might not meaningfully revive both companies, say analysts.
