Market steady; Sensex up 84pts at 9623

The Sensex continues to hover around the day's high of 9642. The index is now up 84 points at 9623.

Reliance is up 1% at Rs 929. NTPC has surged 2.8% to Rs 115.

ONGC is down nearly 2% at Rs 1,187.

ITC is firm with a gain of 2.8% at Rs 147.

Satyam has added 3.3% to Rs 767. Infosys at Rs 3,051 and Wipro at Rs 481 have also added substantial gains.

Tata Motors at Rs 658 and Bajaj Auto at Rs 2,051 are up nearly 2% each. While Maruti has declined 1.5% to Rs 656, Hero Honda is down 0.5% at Rs 856.

HDFC Bank has advanced 1.9% to Rs 767. ICICI Bank has moved up 1.6% to Rs 617.

BHEL and Larsen & Toubro are up 1% each at Rs 1,424 and Rs 1,850, respectively.

Advances continue to remain ahead of declines - out of 2,560 stocks traded on the BSE, so far, 1,449 have moved up, 1,061 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
