Lakshmi Overseas Industries, a leading manufacturer and exporter of rice is witnessing interest from overseas institutional investors for the first time ever.

Goldman Sachs recently bought 6 lakh shares or 5.5 per cent stake at Rs 1153.71. The stock price has dipped by 1.7 per cent in the past month.

However it has significantly outperformed the Sensex since the beginning of the calendar year 2006.

The company is going for capacity expansion to increase the paddy processing capacity from 2100 to 3300 MT per day. and set up biomass based 105MW power plant.

Assam Company gained 15.6 per cent over the week to close at Rs 28.10 on the company reports that it has acquired 50 per cent stake in Australia's Austin Exploration. It has gained 17 per cent in the past one month.

Austin Exploration was formed pursuant to a strategic alliance between Assam Company and DMS to explore and develop oil and gas projects in the US, Australia and India.
