Markets closed on account of Ganesh Chaturthi

Indian equity, forex, money and commodity markets will remain closed today on account of Ganesh Chaturthi.

On Friday, benchmark share indices firmed up in the latter half of the trading session to end higher with auto shares gaining the most on the back of encouraging sales growth in August. The S&P BSE Sensex ended up 109 points at 28,532 and the Nifty50 gained 35 points to settle at 8,810.

Foreign institutional investors were net buyers in equities worth Rs 231 crore on Friday, as per provisional stock exchange data.

Global Markets

Asian stocks edged higher on Monday after lower-than-expected US jobs growth data for August is likely to result in further delay in interest rate hike by the US Federal Reserve. The Nikkei was up 0.8% while Hang Seng and Straits Times rose over 1.2% each and Shanghai Composite was up 0.2%.
 
US shares ended higher on Friday after August jobs growth came in lower than expected.
The monthly jobs report by the US Labor Department indicated that nonfarm payrolls grew by 151,000 in August. The Dow and S&P ended over 0.4% higher.
