Markets consolidating at higher levels

The markets are consolidating at current levels. The Sensex is now up 190 points at 16,112, and the Nifty is up 58 points at 4,815.

The markets have come off the day's high. The Sensex after touching a high of 16,179, is currently at 16,111 - up 189 points. The Nifty is up 59 points at 4,816.

The BSE Bankex has gained 1.6% at 9,434 and the Realty index has added 1.5% to 3,367.

ICICI Bank and Jaiprakash Associates have rallied 3% each to Rs 824 and Rs 132, respectively.

Hindalco and ACC have moved up nearly 2% each to Rs 139 and Rs 886, respectively.

Tata Steel, HDFC Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Grasim, DLF and Tata Motors are the other prominent gainers.

Bharti Airtel is the sole loser among the index stocks.

The market breadth is fairly positive - out of 2,528 stocks traded so far, 1,685 have advanced, 757 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
