Markets continue their northward journey

The markets continue thier upward movement after a quiet opening. The Sensex registered a high of 19,769 and continues to hover around the same. The Nifty has added 62 points at 5,924.

In broader markets, both the smallcap and the midcap index are trading up 2%. In comparison, the benchmark index continues to underperform at 1% in the green.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, Metal index continues to lead the pack followed by Realty, PSU, Consumer Durables and Bankex gaining 2% each.Meanwhile, the Teck index has slipped into the negative, down 0.1%

In the Asian markets, Hang Seng and KLSE Composite are the only indices trading in the red.Both the indices are trading 0.1% down. Nikkei is up 0.5% while Seoul Composite and Taiwan Weighted have both added 1% each.

The top gainers in the Sensex-30 stocks are Tata Steel up nearly 4%, Hindalco, State Bank of India, ONGC and Mahindra & Mahindra gaining 3% each.

Bharti Airtel down nearly 4%, Wipro losing 1%, BHEL, Hindustan Unilever and NTPC  shedding 0.1% - 0.2% round off the losers list.

The market breadth is very positive. 2312 stocks have advanced while 495 have declined.
