Markets continue to trade sideways

The markets have been bereft of any activity in the past one hour. The Sensex is quoting at 17,170, up five points, and the Nifty is virtually unchanged at 5,129. The energy sector is trading up, while banking and FMCG stocks are trading weak.

Among the Sensex-30 stocks, Reliance Industries has strengthened by 1.5% at Rs 1,043, L&T has appreciated by 1.4% at Rs 1577 and ONGC has added 0.8% at Rs 1,078. Sun Pharma, Tata Motors and Hindustan Unilever are the other notable winners.

On the losers side, HDFC Bank and ITC have lost 1.4% each at Rs 1,784 and Rs 255 respectively, while ICICI Bank has shed 1% at Rs 913.

 

The market breadth is positive. Out of 2,474 shares traded on the BSE, 1,353 have advanced and 1050 have declined.
