Markets end in red

The Sensex has ended (provisional) at 17,267 - down 56 points. 

The Nifty ended (provisional) at 5,125 - down 17 points.

The markets have slipped into red for the first time today as global cues were unsupportive.

The Sensex is up four points at 17,327. The NSE Nifty is down three points at 5,139.

The Sensex is now up 26 points at 17,349.

The NSE Nifty is now up four points at 5,146.

Sterlite has surged over 3% to Rs 846.

TCS and Bharti Airtel have gained 2% each at Rs 611 and Rs 334, respectively.

 

Reliance Communications has advanced 1.7% to Rs 238, and ACC has added 1.5% to Rs 794.

ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank are the notable losers among the index stocks.

The market breadth is extremely positive - out of 2,414 stocks traded so far, 1,834 have advanced, and 523 have declined.
