Markets extend gains; small-caps outperform

Markets have had a positive start this morning on strong cues from global peers.

The Sensex touched a high of 17,566. The index is now up 90 points at 17,551.

The Nifty is up 31 points at 5,261.

The BSE small-cap index has out-performed the Sensex. The index is up 1.5% to 9,162.

BSE realty index 1.7% to 3,629. The consumer durables, bankex and auto indices have also moved up.

Jaiprakash Associates has jumped 2.3% to Rs 151. DLF has gained 2% at Rs 332.

Tata Motors has added 1.2% to Rs 802. Reliance Infrastructure has added 1% to Rs 1,130. ICICI Bank, Tata Steel and Hero Honda have added 1% each.

 

Wipro and Hindustan Unilever have advanced 1% each to Rs 701 and Rs 230, respectively.

Other gainers in the index include HDFC Bank, Reliance Communications, SBI and Mahindra & Mahindra.

However, Sun Pharma has dropped 1% to Rs 1,784. Larsen & Toubro has slipped 0.5% to Rs 1,580.

The BSE market breadth is positive. Out of 2,491 stocks traded, 1,911 have advanced while 511 have declined.
