Markets extend losses

The Sensex is at 17625, lower by 85 points and the Nifty is at 5268, down 34 points-

The benchmark indices have been hovering around the previous day's levels this afternoon. The Sensex is quoting at 17712, higher by one point and the Nifty is at 5300, up one point. But there is a lot of activity in the broder markets, with the BSE mid-cap and small-cap indices gaining half a percent and one percent respectively.

DLF continues to be in the limelight. The realty major has gained 3.5% at Rs 309. Tata Motors and Sterlite have strengthened by 1.9% each at Rs 753 and Rs 852 respectively. M&M, ONGC and ACC are the other prominent gainers.

 

And index heavyweight Reliance Industries is trading marginally higher at Rs 1097.

On the loser's side, HDFC Bank and Infosys have weakened by 2.1% each at Rs 1921 and Rs 2657 respectively, while Sun Pharma has shed 1.2% at Rs 1777.  

The market breadth continues to be strong. Out of 2819 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1821 advancing stocks as against 910 declines.
