Markets extend losses

Markets have extended losses. The Sensex touched a low of 16,628. The index is now down 202 points at 16,673.

The Nifty is down 67 points at 4,999.

All the sectoral indices are in red. The BSE realty index is now down 2.4% at 3,162. The metal, banking and auto sectors have slipped 1-2% each.

Tata Motors has slumped 5% to Rs 733.

Sterlite has tumbled 4% to Rs 661. Tata Steel is down 1.7% to Rs 522. Hindalco has fallen 1% at Rs 161.

ICICI Bank has recovered some of its losses and is now down 3.8% to Rs 855.

Realty stocks - DLF has dropped 3.4% to Rs 279. Jaiprakash Associates has slipped 3% to Rs 124.

Communication stocks - Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications remains down 2.5% each.

TCS, Hindustan Unilver, HDFC Bank, Wipro, Mahindra & Mahindra and BHEL are the other top losers.

Reliance is down 1% at Rs 1,009.

However, Infosys has managed to gain 0.5% at Rs 2,637. Hero Honda and Reliance Infrastructure are up marginally in noon trades.
