Markets extend losses

The markets continue to trade in the negative zone Sensex is near the day's low at 20,055 down 162 points and Nifty is lower by 55 points at 6027.

Meanwhile, all the major indices across the world are trading weak, the french CAC is down 21 points at 3830, FTSE is lower by 42 points at 5665 and DAX is at 6578 down 35 points. Among the Asian markets Hang Seng has shed 411 points and is at 23,190, Shanghai is down 44 points at 2997, however Nikkei ended the day on a flat note, up merely 9 points to end at 9387.

Backhome, HDFC is the top loser among the Sensex stocks down more than 3.2% at Rs 675, followed by NTPC, Bharti Airtel, ACC, ONGC and Maruti Suzuki down more than 1.5% each. Mahindra & Mahindra leads the Sensex gainers charts, followed by Hindalco Industries, Sterlite Industries, Tata Steel and Hero Honda.

Realty index is the top loser among the sectoral charts, the index is down 1.7% or 65 points at 3755, followed by Bankex, IT, PSU and Power indices down more than 0.7% each. However, Consumer Durables and Metal indices are the only gainers on the sectoral charts.

Indiabulls Real Estate is the top loser among the Realty stocks down more than 3.8% at Rs 196, followed by HDIL, Anant Raj Industries, DLF and D B Realty, down more than 1% each.

 

The broader markets are also marginally down, the swmall-cap index is down 2 points at 10,847 and mid-cap index is down 10 points at 8443.

The market breadth is negative; out of 2998 stocks traded on the BSE, 1597 stocks have declined and 1306 stocks have advanced.
