Markets extend losses in noon trades

Markets have extended losses. The Sensex has dropped 55 points to a low of 16,300. The index is now down 35 points at 16,321.

The Nifty is down 21 points at 4,879.

The BSE oil & gas index has displayed weakness. The index is down 1.3% at 9,911. The bankex, power and auto index have also dropped in red.

NTPC has dropped 2% to Rs 207. Hero Honda and HDFC Bank have slipped 1.5% each at Rs 1,556 and Rs 1,582, respectively.

Reliance Communications, Jaiprakash Associates, Reliance, SBI and Maruti Suzuki are the other losers in the index today.

Meanwhile, Hindalco continues to hold gains and is up 3.5% at Rs 155. HDFC has added 1.5% to Rs 2,418. DLF, Tata Steel and Grasim have advanced around 1% each. TCS is up 1% at Rs 753.

 

The BSE market breadth is positive. Out of 2,805 stocks traded, 1,734 have advanced while 994 have declined.
