Markets flat, breadth marginally positive

The Sensex is at 19628, higher by 26 points and the Nifty is at 5886, up one point.

The markets continue to exhibit lacklustre movement as they await fresh cues from the European markets. Also on the earnings front, front line companies like Maruti, Sesa Goa and Sterlite too are scheduled to announce its results later today.

The Sensex after touching a high of 19,697, has pared gains and now trading sideways for the last couple of hours. The index is up 13 points at 19,614.

SBI continues to top the gainers list, with a gain of 2% at Rs 2,918. Infosys has gained 1.7% at Rs 2,959.

Sterlite and Larsen & Toubro have moved up over 1.5% each. ONGC, BHEL and ITC are the other notable gainers.

On the other hand, Reliance continues to languish in the negative territory. The stock has shed 2.8% at Rs 1,011.

DLF, Hindalco, Reliance Infrastructure, Jindal Steel and Jaiprakash Associates were the other major losers.

The BSE Oil & Gas index has dropped 1.4% to 10,161 mainly on account of a fall in Reliance.

In the broader markets, Prestige Estates has zoomed nearly 13% to Rs 157. Thomas Cook, 3i Infotech, Bharat Bijlee, Jubilant Foodworks, 3m India, Shree Global Trading and Himadri Chemicals are the other major gainers.

Axis Bank tops the losers list in the BSE 500 index, down 4.5% at Rs 1,383 after the bank fell short on net interest margins. Gammon India has also dropped 4.5%.

Rain Commodities, Time Techno, Suzlon Energy, KGN Industries, MindTree, JK Lakshmi Cements, Torrent Power, JM Financial and Allcargo Global are the other prominent losers.

The market breadth is marginally positive - out of 2,746 stocks traded so far on the BSE, 1,341 have advanced and 1,302 have declined.
