The Sensex is quoting at 18419, higher by 17 points and the Nifty is at 5541, up 11 points.

After touching an intra-day high of 18,454, up 54 points from the dya's opening, the markets have once again slipped into the red.The Sensex is down 16 points at 18,385 and the Nifty is at 5,531 down one point.However, the European markets opening in the green didn't have much effect on the Indian markets. FTSE and DAX are flat while CAC is up 0.3%.On the Asian front, Hang Seng and Nikkei are down 0.5% and 0.6% respectively.The smallcap index is steady at 0.9% while the midcap index has extended its gains and is up 0.6% as compared to the benchmark index in the negative at 0.04%.
Among the BSE sectoral indices, Consumer Durables is on a roll, extending its initial gains to be up 1.8%. PSU and Teck remain firm while Auto index pared some of its gains.Realty too slipped and is flat at 0.03%. Bankex and FMCG continue to languish in the red.Gitanjali Gems and Titan Industries gaining nearly 6% are the major movers in the Consumer Durables space.Sobha Dev, DLF and D B Realty are the major draggers in the realty space.
Jindal Steel up 2.5% is the top gainer on the Sensex followed by ONGC gaining 2%, Cipla and Bharti Airtel adding 1% each.
Hindalco, ITC, Jaiprakash Associates, Reliance Infrastructure down nearly 2% are the top losers on the Sensex.
Market breadth continues to be positive. Of the total 2962 shares traded, 1720 shares have advanced while 1158 have declined.
