Markets have a good start

The markets have started the day's proceedings on a healthy note, thanks to the positive set of cues on the global front. The Sensex is quoting at 20193, higher by 94 points and the Nifty is at 6058, up 28 points in early trades. The midcap index is at 8192, higher by 34 points and the smallcap index is at 10356, up 72 points.

The Dow and the S&P 500 edged up on Tuesday as corporate deal news and earnings expectations continued to fuel investor optimism. The Dow gained 32 points, or 0.30% to 10,844. And Asian markets rallied in the early trades, taking positive cues from the US. The Hang Seng has added 1.2% and Nikkei has added 0.6% in early trades, while the other Asian peers are also trading in the green.

 

The information technlogy space is hogging the limelight in this morning's trades. Wipro has jumped by 1.4% at Rs 448 to emerge as the leading gainer on the BSE. Infosys has strengthened by 1.4% at Rs 3053 and TCS has gained 1% at Rs 929. The metal space is also not far behind. Tata Steel has strengthened by 1.4% at Rs 661 and Hindalco has added 0.8% at Rs 197.

On the other hand, Sterlite is witnessing profit-booking after recent gains. The stock is quoting at Rs 163, weaker by 7.4%, on the BSE. Tata Power has shed 0.4% at Rs 13423 and HDFC has lost 0.2% at Rs 711.

The market breadth is positive. Out of 1727 stocks trad'ed on the BSE, there are 1261 advancing stocks as against 418 declines.
