Markets have a quiet opening

The markets have opened on a quiet note with the Sensex opening up 65 points at 20,268 and the Nifty added 17 points at 6,108. In the broader markets, the smallcap and the midcap index has opened up 0.5% each at 10,679 and 8,373 rrespectively. Meanwhile, the benchmark index is underperforming at 0.2%.

On the BSE sectoral indices, Realty tops the pack at 0.7% followed by Consumer Durables, Metal and Teck. Auto and Bankex are laggards in the morning trades.

Maruti Suzuki, Hindalco Inds, Tata Power, Tata Steel up 1%  followed by ONGC,DLF, BHEL, Jaiprakash Associates, Jindal Steel gaining 0.6% - 0.8% are the top gainers in the early trades.

 

The losers are HDFC,HDFC Bank, Hero Honda, Reliance Communications, Tata Motors and ACC down 0.1% - 0.6%.

The market breadth is positive. Of the total 1866 stocks traded, 1351 stocks have advanced while 462 have declined.
