The day's proceedings on our bourses have started on a subdued note in line with their Asian counterparts. The Sensex is quoting at 16660, higher by 43 points and the Nifty has just surpassed the 5k mark and is now at 5004, up 16 points. The midcap index is
quoting at 6835, higher by 1.1% and the smallcap index is at 8546, up 0.9%
Bharti Airtel, the country's largest mobile telecom service provider, strengthened by 1.7% at Rs 262 after announcing the completion of its deal to acquire the African assets of Kuwait's biggest phone company, Mobile Telecommunications Company, also known as Zain. DLF (firmed up by 1.7% at Rs 262) and Hindalco (higher by 1.6% at Rs 134) are the major gainers on the BSE. And index heavyweight RIL added 0.9% at Rs 1006.
On the losers side, ITC has weakened by 3.7% at Rs 278 after turning ex-dividend. RCom has shed another 0.9% at Rs 166 and Tata Power has lost 0.6% at Rs 1234.
The market breadth is positive. Out of 1205 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1005 advancing stocks as against 183 declines.
