Markets in green as IT gains

Markets continue to be volatile today. The Sensex is now up 14 points at 17,923.

The Nifty is up six points at 5,384.

The BSE mid and small-cap indices have outperformed the broader markets. The small-cap index has jumped 0.8% to 9,456. The mid-cap index is up 0.5% at 7,399.

BSE IT index continues to lead among sectoral indices. The index has gained 1.4% to 5,433.

TCS has rallied 5.3% to Rs 826 on a jump in its June quarter net.

Tata Motors and ICICI Bank have gained 1.8% each to Rs 825 and Rs 898, respectively. Reliance Communications and Jaiprakash Associates have added nearly 1% each.

Meanwhile, HDFC has dropped 1.2% to Rs 3,009. HDFC Bank has slipped 1% to Rs 2,041.

Tata Power and Reliance has shed 1% each in noon trades as well.

BSE market breadth is positive. Out of 2,849 stocks traded, 1,692 have advanced while 1,054 have declined.
