Markets languish in the red

There has been no recovery in sight in the late-noon session. With the Asian markets continuing to trade weak around closing time and the European indices shedding as much as a percent each in early trades, there is no respite in selling pressure back home. The Sensex is quoting at 17884, lower by 145 points and the Nifty is at 5372, down 43 points.

Among the sectoral indices on the BSE, there is hardly any change.FMCG, up marginally by 0.08% leads and is the only index in the green. The Auto index has pared its gains and has moved up. Oil & Gas, Consumer Durables and Realty are the major lossers and is at the bottom of the charts.

 

Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra up nearly 1% are the top gainers on the Sensex. Bharti Airtel, ITC, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Tata Motors are the other major gainers on the list.

Jaiprakash Associates and RIL down nearly 3% are the major losers on the Sensex followed by Reliance Communications, DLF, Jindal Steel and Hero Honda shedding 2.5% each are the other significant losers.

Market breadth continues to be very negative. Of the total 2935 stocha traded on the BSE, 2231 have declined while 632 have advanced.
