	Benchmark indices settled the indices lower with Nifty ending only a little above 10,000-mark and Sensex down over 200 points after activity in service sector contracted at the sharpest rate in nearly four years in July after GST sowed confusion and sent new orders into free fall. All sectoral indices ended in red, contributing to the losses.</div>

The S&amp;P 500 gained 0.05% hovering just below its record high touched last week, supported by upbeat earnings and rising expectations that the Federal Reserve&#39;s policy tightening will move ahead only slowly.</div>

Asian shares dipped. MSCI&#39;s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan dropped 0.5% with South Korea&#39;s Kospi index falling 1.5% in early trade. Japan&#39;s Nikkei dipped 0.1%, while the broader Topix was flat.
