Advance-decline ratio at multi-year lows; Nifty midcaps, smallcaps fall
The advance-decline ratio, a key indicator for market breadth, has dropped to multi-year lows. It stood at 0.1 per cent, with only 183 stocks advancing and 1,658 declining on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in September. Such a weak market breadth was seen after the 2008 Global Financial Crisis.
The broader market stocks witnessed a huge correction in September with the Nifty Midcap 100 index dropping 14 per cent and Nifty Smallcap 100 index plunging 20 per cent. It was the biggest monthly fall for the two indices since October 2008. READ MORE

FPI outflow at 4-month high of Rs 210 bn in Sept on widening CAD, trade war
Overseas investors pulled out a massive Rs 210 billion ($3 billion) from the capital markets in September, making it the steepest outflow in four months, on widening current account deficit amid global trade tensions.

More than two of every five diversified equity scheme in red in H1FY19
More than two of every five diversified equity scheme has given negative returns in the first six months of the financial year 2019. Around 45 per cent of the 408 schemes, including direct plans, have given negative returns, data from Value Research shows; 75 per cent of the schemes have underperformed the benchmarks.
Small-cap schemes fared the worst with average six-month returns of -11.4 per cent, while large caps emerged the best among equity schemes with returns of 6 per cent. READ MORE

Brent oil rises to four-year high ahead of Iran sanctions, traders eye more hikes
Brent crude oil prices rose to their highest since November 2014 on Monday ahead of US sanctions against Iran, the third-largest producer in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), that kick in next month.
Benchmark Brent crude oil futures rose to as much as $83.27 a barrel and were at $83.21 at 0339 GMT, up 48 cents, or 0.6 per cent from their last close. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were up 32 cents, or 0.4 per cent, at $73.57 a barrel. READ MORE
