Oil hits highest since mid-2015, then dips
Oil prices eased on Tuesday after hitting mid-2015 highs in early trading, as major pipelines in Libya and the UK restarted and US production soared to the highest in more than four decades.
It was the first time since January 2014 that the two crude oil benchmarks opened the year above $60 per barrel, buoyed by large anti-government rallies in Iran and ongoing supply cuts led by Opec and Russia. READ MORE

Wall Street update
US stocks rose in the first session of the new year and the Nasdaq closed above 7,000 for the first time on Tuesday as investors were optimistic that 2018 will bring more gains for the market.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 104.79 points, or 0.42 percent, to 24,824.01, the S&P 500 gained 22.18 points, or 0.83 percent, to 2,695.79 and the Nasdaq Composite added 103.51 points, or 1.5 percent, to 7,006.90.

Asian markets
Asian markets were eying all-time top. MSCI’s index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 0.4 percent, having jumped 1.4 percent on Tuesday in its best performance since last March. The index is creeping ever closer to the all-time peak of 591.50 reached in late 2007.
Chinese blue chips gained for the fourth session running, while Japan's Nikkei was closed for holidays.

Nifty outlook by HDFC Securities
Nifty has been consolidating in the range of 10,400-10,550 for last 10 sessions. Primary trend is still bullish with higher tops and higher bottoms. Previous top on the daily chart is placed at 10,329, which is likely to act as a short term support. Recent Top formed at 10,545 would remain as a strong resistance. We expect nifty to remain in to consolidation till it breaks the consolidation range of 10,300-10,550 on the either side. However, stock specific bullish trend is likely to continue. READ MORE
