Markets move into the green

The markets have moved into the green zone with the Sensex gaining 16 points at 20,000 while the Nifty is flat at 6,027.

The Indian markets open in the red with the Sensex down 71 points at 19,991 and the Nifty started trading 26 points lower at 6004.In the broader markets, the smallcap index opened flat at 10,638 while the midcap started in the negative down 0.04%. The benchmark index is nderperforming, down 0.2%

On the international front, U.S. stocks posted their biggest loss in two months on fears banks might be on the hook for billions of dollars in souring mortgage bonds. The Dow Jones dropped 165 points, or 1.5% to 10,978. The Nasdaq  fell 44 points, or 1.8% to 2,437. In the Asian markets too started in the red with Hang Seng Index down 1.5% and Japan's Nikkei fell 2.2%

On the BSE sectoral indices, IT up 0.4% leads the pack followed by Teck and Auto. All the other indices have opened in the red. Metal and Realty down 0.8% and 0.7% respectively are the biggest losers in the opening trade.

 

Hindustan Unilever, TCS up 0.9% followed by Tata Power, Infosys and Cipla gaining 0.8% each are the top gainers.

Sterlite down 1.5%, Hindalco, Tata Steel shedding 1% and  Tata Motors losing 0.8% are the major losers on the Sensex in the opening trades.

The market breadth is positive.1093 stocks have advanced while 828 have declined.
