Markets move sideways

The markets continue to trade sideways. The Sensex is now up 106 points at 17,607, and the Nifty is up 31 points at 5,285.

The markets have been stagnant in the past one hour. The Sensex has given up nearly 100 points from its intra-day high of 17,646 and is now quoting at 17584, higher by 80 points and the Nifty is at 5277, up 23 points. But the mid cap and small cap indices are up around a per cent each at 7186 and 9255 respectively.

Auto and realty stocks continue to do well. Tata Motors is the leading gainer on the Sensex, having added 3.2% at Rs 870 and Hero Honda has appreciated by 1.9% at Rs 1872. Reliance Infra has added 1.8% at Rs 1144 and DLF has strengthened by 1.3% at Rs 313.

 

ONGC is the top loser on the Sensex, having shed 0.9% at Rs 1036. Hindalco has shed 0.6% at Rs 178 and ACC has lost 0.5% at Rs 892. And index heavyweight RIL has added 0.4% at Rs 1039.

In the mid-cap space, Ashok Leyland has gained more than 7% on a four-fold jump in Q4 net. Kansai Nerolac and United Phosphorus are the other significant gainers. And in the small cap space, Satra Properties, Abhishek Industries and Binani soar.

The advance-decline gap has narrowed down. There are now two advancing stocks behind every declines.
