Markets move sideways

The markets have continued to trade in a sideways manner since opening bell. The Sensex is at 18,181, up 14 points, and the Nifty is up seven points at 5,459.

The Smallcap index (uo 0.8%) and the Midcap index (up 0.5%) are outperforming the benchmark index (0.07%).

Of the total 534 scrips on the Smallcap index, 360 scrips have advanced while 151 have declined. The major movers in this space are Jagatjit Industried adding 20%, followed by REI Six Ten Retail, gaining 15% and JVL Agro Industries, up 10%. In the Midcap space, Wockhardt has gained nearly 10%, Sigrun Holdings and Tata Chemicals, up nearly 5% each, are the major gainers.

Among the BSE Sectoral Indices, Consumer Durables up 0.9% leads the gainers list, followed by Realty and FMCG, while Health Care, IT and Teck are in the red. Havells India gaining 2% while Punj Lloyd and Siemens up 1% each are the gainers in the Consumer Durables space.

On the Sensex-30 stocks, Sterlite adding nearly 2% is the top gainer followed by Tata Steel,     Hindustan Unilever and L&T gaining 1% each.

On the losers side on the Sensex are Cipla shedding nearly 4%, Reliance Communications losing 3% and Jaiprakash Associates down 1%

The market breadth is positive. 1731 stocks have advanced as against 769 declines.
