Markets near day's high

Markets have been volatile since opening in the red. The Sensex touched a low of 15,862 and rebounded in mid-morning trades. The index is now near the day's high of 16,013.

The Sensex is up 59 points at 15,996.

The Nifty is up 18 points at 4,778.

The BSE IT index has jumped 1.6% to 4,930. However, realty and oil & gas indices are down in red.

IT stocks have held on to gains. TCS has jumped 1.6% to Rs 736. Infosys is up 1.5% at Rs 2,437. Wipro has gained 1.4% at Rs 646.

Hero Honda has added 1.4% to Rs 1,607. Tata Motors is up 1.5% at Rs 683. Mahindra & Mahindra have moved up marginally to Rs 1,008.

 

Grasim has advanced 1.4% to Rs 2,595 on hopes of a further rise in cement prices. Other gainers include Tata Steel, Jaiprakash Associates, BHEL and NTPC.

However, DLF is down marginally at Rs 309.

The BSE market breadth is fairly positive. Out of 2,416 stocks traded, 1,483 have advanced while 848 have declined.
