The Sensex has extended gains and is near its day's high. The index is now at 16, 182, up 264 points. The NSE Nifty is at 4,842, up 83 points.

The Sensex is near the day's high at 16,139 - up 217 points.
The Nifty is at 4,824 - up 66 points.
The BSE metal index and the realty index have gained 1.7% each o 15,664 and 3,375, respectively. the bankex, Oil and IT indices are also in green.
ICICI Bank has surged 3% to Rs 825. Jaiprakash Associates has gained 3% at Rs 132.
Hero Honda has added 2.5% to Rs 1,662. Heavyweight, Reliance, is up 2% at Rs 1,007.
Tata Steel has advanced 2% to Rs 534, Hindalco has jumped 1.6% to Rs 139 and Sterlite has moved up nearly 1%.
ACC, TCS, reliance Infrastructure, DLF, Mahindra & Mahindra and Wipro have advanced around 1% each. The other index gainers include Tata Motors, HDFC Bank, Maruti Suzuki, ITC and Infosys.
The BSE market breadth is positive. Out of 2,777 stocks traded, 1,723 have advanced while 950 have declined.
