The markets are trading near the day's low with the Sensex down 95 points at 20,779 and Nifty at 6251, lower by 24 points at 6256 levels.
Meanwhile, the European markets have opened on a negative note. CAC 40 shed 57 points at 3888 and FTSE is lower by 58 points at 5816.
Back home, Hindalco leads the Sensex gainers charts followed by Tata Power, Sterlite Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Steel. DLF, Bharti Airtel, ONGC and TCS are among the losers on the Sensex.
The broader markets continue to outperform the benchmark indices. The mid-cap index is up 16 points at 8747 and the small-cap index is up 88 points at 11,332. The BSE 500 market breadth is marginally positive as 263 stocks are advancing and 233 are declining.
Metal index leads the sectoral pack, the index is up 203 points, or 1.2%, at 17,851, followed by Consumer Durables, Auto and Bankex indices. On the other hand, the BSE Realty index is the top loser, which is trading down 1.2% or 47 points at 3745 followed by Teck, IT and Oil & Gas indices.
Hindalco Industries, Tata Steel, Sterlite Industries and Sesa Goa are gainers in the Metal pack. On the economic front, the food inflation has eased to 12.30% versus 12.85% in the previous week, while the fuel inflation climbed to 10.67.
