Markets off day's high

The markets have come off the day's high. The Sensex is now up 299 points at 16,931. The Nifty is up 98 points at 5,040.

The Sensex touched a high of 17,027 backed by buying in the metal and the realty stocks. The index is now at 17,004, up 372 points.

The metal and the realty indices continue to lead the upmove, up 4% and 3%, respectively.

The Nifty is at 5,059, up 117 points.

Tata Motors and Hindalco have soared over 5% each to Rs 662 and Rs 139, respectively.

Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel and Sterlite have rallied around 4.5% each at Rs 570, Rs 296 and Rs 863, respectively.

Jaiprakash Associates, Reliance Communications and ICICI Bank have advanced over 3% each to Rs 222, Rs 173 and Rs 879, respectively.

The other prominent gainers on the Sensex includes HDFC, ONGC, DLF, RIL, Reliance Infrastructure, TCS and Infosys, up 2.5% each.

The market breadth is positive, out of 2,690 shares traded, 2,045 have advanced and 577 have declined so far on the BSE.
