Markets off day's highs

Markets have shaved off their early gains and are now trading flat. The benchmark indices were hovering around 2-year highs in this morning's trades, but failed to surpass those levels. The Sensex is quoting at 17730, higher by 22 points and the Nifty is at 5306, up three points.

The broader markets are strong though. The BSE mid-cap index is up around half a percent at 6811 and the small-cap index has gained 1% at 8477. And the market breadth is strong, with 1707 gainers as against 772 losers.

The realty sector is up more than 1%, with DLF being the star performer. The realty stock is the top gainer on the BSE, strengthening by 2.4% at Rs 306. M&M and Sterlite have strengthened by 1.9% each at Rs 564 and Rs 852 respectively. Sobha Developers, Indiabulls Real Estate and HDIL have also hardened between 1% and 3% each.

 

And index heavyweight Relianxce Industries has gained 0.5% at Rs 1099.

The IT stocks have further extended their losses, with the rupee hovering around 18-month highs. Infosys is the top loser on the Sensex, weakening by 1.5% at Rs 2673. TCS and Wipro have lost nearly 1% each at Rs 803 and Rs 710 respectively.
